Drainfield Rejuvenation Services

What Is Drainfield Rejuvenation?

Over time, your septic system’s drain field can become clogged with a dense layer of organic matter called a biomat. This biomat forms on the walls of the drain field trenches and prevents wastewater from properly absorbing into the soil. This can cause slow drains, soggy yards, and backups. Left untreated, a failed drain field typically means an expensive full replacement of the system.

Drainfield rejuvenation is a non-invasive solution for septic repair and maintenance. Atlantic Pumping uses a Terralift machine to bring new life to your existing septic system in a timely manner, without disturbing your lawn.

How the Terralift Process Works

The entire treatment is completed in a single visit with no excavation and minimal impact on your property.

Probe insertion

A narrow probe is driven 3–6 feet into the soil (depending on the drainfield) alongside the drainfield trenches.

Compressed air injection

Air is forced into the soil at a controlled rate, fracturing the compacted layers and loosening the biomat clogging the trenches.

Polystyrene bead delivery

Tiny beads are injected alongside the air to hold the cracks open, creating lasting drainage pathways in the soil.

Septic Drainfield FAQs

What is a septic biomat and how does it cause drainfield failure?

A biomat is a dense, slimy layer of anaerobic bacteria and organic matter that naturally forms on the bottom and sidewalls of your drainfield trenches over time. While a normal biomat helps filter wastewater, an overgrown biomat completely seals off the soil, preventing water from absorbing. This results in standard failure signs like slow indoor drains, soggy spots in your yard, and sewage backups.

Drainfield rejuvenation typically costs thousands of dollars less than a traditional, full septic system replacement. Because the Terralift process requires zero heavy excavation, permits, or new soil distribution, you save significantly on both construction costs and resulting landscape repairs to fix a torn-up yard.

While no method can make a septic system last forever, Terralift rejuvenation provides long-lasting relief by permanently propping open soil pathways with polystyrene beads. When combined with regular septic tank pumping and proper household water conservation, this process can extend the life of your existing drainfield for many years.
